Aranco wins the runner-up prize for sustainable SME at the 8th edition of the SME of the Year Award

Yesterday, in a ceremony organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Valencia and Banco Santander, Gaizka Lara, CEO of Aranco, collected the Runner-up prize to the Sustainable SME for Aranco in the VIII Edition of the SME OF THE YEAR 2024 Award, for companies in the province of Valencia.

This recognition, which also involves the collaboration of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and the newspaper Levante-EMV, highlights our firm commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. 

The award is a further reflection of our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact and move towards a more environmentally friendly business model. In recent years, at Aranco we have implemented key initiatives, such as the installation of a photovoltaic plant that produces 30% of our electricity, the renewal of our fleet towards hybrid and electric vehicles, and a waste management policy that has earned us the Zero Waste Seal, guaranteeing that more than 95% of our waste is recycled or revalued. 

Furthermore, at Aranco we have been pioneers in our sector, publishing in 2022 the first Sustainability Report under GRI standards (financial year 2021). Since then, we have continued this practice, and we are currently preparing our fourth report (financial year 2024).  

But sustainability also means taking care of our people, with actions such as: 

  • Raising awareness of equality and diversity. 
  • Training and internal promotion. 
  • Specific measures for work-life balance. 

At the same time, we started to implement Career and Personal Development Plans for all our staff, guaranteeing their professional growth and enhancing their talent. 

In fact, this runner-up award is a recognition of the work of the entire Aranco team, which strives every day to innovate and contribute to a greener future. Our Decarbonisation Plan and the adoption of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our business strategy demonstrate our willingness to lead change in the industrial packaging sector. 

The value of small and medium-sized enterprises  

The SME OF THE YEAR Award, which since its inception has had the participation of more than 9,000 SMEs from all over Spain, is an initiative that highlights the role of small and medium-sized enterprises as drivers of economic growth and job creation in Spain. In this edition, in addition to the main prize, awards were presented in different categories: internationalisation, digitalisation and innovation, training and employment, and sustainability, a category in which Aranco was awarded. 

Our commitment continues 

At Aranco, this new recognition motivates us to continue advancing in our sustainability strategy, integrating new measures that contribute to environmental protection and resource efficiency.
